History
The Taipei Venture Capital Association, a non-profit organization, was founded on April 17, 1992 by the 22 venture funds registered in Taipei. Wen C. Ko, Chairman of WK Technology Fund, was elected Chairman. Mr. Ko was succeeded by Ding-Hua Hu, Chairman of Chien Kung Venture Capital Corporation, and Paul Wang, Chairman of Chinatrust Venture Capital Co., Ltd.
By 1997, 72 venture funds, including three in Hsinchu, had been established. In order to better serve all of Taiwan’s venture funds, the Taipei Venture Capital Association filed an application to upgrade to national status in 1998.The Taiwan Venture Capital Association was officially established on May 20, 1999. Paul Wang, Chairman of Chinatrust Venture Capital Co., Ltd., was elected as tvca Chairman and later re-elected to a second three-year term on April 2, 2002. Hua VI Capital Chairman Richard Chen took over the post in 2005.
As of the end of 2005, the tvca has 231 venture fund members. 105 venture management firms manage the 231 funds, which have total capital under management of NT$ 189.4 billion. The funds have invested an accumulated NT$ 188 billion in over 10,000 high technology companies. The tvca's Board of Directors is comprised of 21 directors and 7 supervisors elected from the tvca's member funds.
In June 2007, the tvca was renamed Taiwan Private Equity & Venture Capital Association.
